The government, desperate to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed and to save lives, initially imposed a strict lockdown akin to those seen in our world. Months turned into years, and the cycle of lockdowns became an ingrained part of life. The British economy, once vibrant and dynamic, shrank dramatically. High streets that were once bustling centers of commerce are now lined with the empty husks of businesses that could not withstand the constant start-stop nature of the lockdowns. Unemployment soared to levels not seen since the Great Depression, and the government's furlough scheme became an unsustainable but necessary lifeline for millions. Education systems were thrown into chaos. Schools and universities oscillated between opening and closing, with virtual learning becoming the norm. However, the inequality gap widened significantly, as those from less affluent backgrounds struggled to access the necessary technology and support to facilitate remote learning.
