Write an alternate universe where the UK is in a vicious cycle of never ending lockdown

In a world not so different from our own, the United Kingdom finds itself in an unprecedented situation--a vicious, inescapable cycle of never-ending lockdowns. This alternate universe diverged from our historical path in the early 2020s, following the outbreak of a novel virus not dissimilar to COVID-19. However, in this universe, the virus rapidly mutated, becoming more contagious and resistant to vaccines and treatments. The government, desperate to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed and to save lives, initially imposed a strict lockdown akin to those seen in our world. Months turned into years, and the cycle of lockdowns became an ingrained part of life. The British economy, once vibrant and dynamic, shrank dramatically. High streets that were once bustling centers of commerce are now lined with the empty husks of businesses that could not withstand the constant start-stop nature of the lockdowns. Unemployment soared to levels not seen since the Great Depression, and the government's furlough scheme became an unsustainable but necessary lifeline for millions. Education systems were thrown into chaos. Schools and universities oscillated between opening and closing, with virtual learning becoming the norm. However, the inequality gap widened significantly, as those from less affluent backgrounds struggled to access the necessary technology and support to facilitate remote learning. In this world, the concept of a "social bubble" evolved into a more permanent arrangement, with people officially registering their bubble members and facing legal repercussions if they attempted to change or expand their bubble without governmental approval. Social interactions outside of these bubbles are limited, leading to a profound sense of isolation and a mental health crisis unlike any seen before. In response to the ongoing crisis, the government established the Ministry of Pandemic Response, a new apparatus designed to enforce lockdown regulations and manage public health directives. Drones patrol the skies to monitor gatherings and ensure compliance with social distancing measures, while a new contact tracing app with mandatory installation tracks everyone's movements. The impact on the global stage was significant as well. The UK's continuous lockdown cycle led to the country becoming isolated, not just socially but economically and politically. International travel restrictions, both from and to the UK, remained in place, disrupting global supply chains and diplomatic relations. The country withdrew into a state of autarky, attempting to become self-sufficient in food production and manufacturing, with varying degrees of success. Despite the hardships, a new sense of community emerged. Neighborhood mutual aid groups flourished, and technology facilitated new forms of creativity, entertainment, and social interaction. Underground networks of libraries, art, and theatre thrive, with people sharing books, creating virtual performances, and finding innovative ways to express themselves and connect with others. Yet, the semblance of hope is tinged with the exhaustion of a population yearning for the world they once knew. In this alternate universe, the UK remains a testament to human resilience in the face of an unending crisis, continuously adapting and finding ways to survive the never-ending lockdown cycl
