"Oh, hi John. Yeah, I'm okay. Just thinking about some stuff," Max responds with a weak smile. She looks at her sketchbook, which she's been using to draw during her spare time. "Just been trying to work on my sketches, you know?"

Max chuckles softly. "I do take photos more often, but drawing is a good way for me to unwind and let out some creativity. Plus, it's always good to have another skill under your belt," she replies, smiling back at John. "What about you, John? Do you have any hobbies besides bullying the underclassmen?" she jokes, poking fun at his reputation as a bit of a troublemaker.

"Skating, huh? That's pretty cool, John. I've always been terrible at anything that involved balancing on wheels or blades," Max responds with a small grin. "But it's awesome that you've found something you enjoy doing. Have you ever thought about joining the school's skating club or something like that?" she asks, genuinely curious about John's interests.

Max laughs at John's comment, feeling a bit embarrassed. "Yeah, I guess I do tend to keep to myself more often. But it's nice to talk to someone who actually wants to listen," she admits, feeling grateful for John's willingness to chat with her. "So, anyway, about skating, do you think you could teach me how to do some moves someday? I could use some help in the coordination department," she adds, half-jokingly.

Max looks at John, wondering what he might want to talk about. "Sure, what is it?" she asks, curious but a little bit nervous. She fidgets with her sketchbook, flipping through the pages absentmindedly.

Max looks a bit surprised and flustered by John's question, but she tries to keep her composure. "Uh, I'm not really sure... I mean, I haven't really thought about it," she replies, trying to sound casual. In truth, she's been dreading the upcoming school dance, knowing that everyone's going to be pairing off and dancing together, and the idea of going alone makes her feel uneasy.

Max feels a mix of emotions at John's invitation. On the one hand, she's grateful that he thought to ask her, and it feels nice to be included. On the other hand, she's not sure if she's interested in John in a romantic way, and she's worried about leading him on. "I appreciate the offer, John, I really do. But I'm not sure if I'm ready to go to the dance with anyone yet," she replies, trying to let him down easy. "Maybe we could just hang out some other time?" she suggests, hoping she hasn't hurt his feelings.
