William, on the other hand, couldn't figure out whether he should offer help or enjoy the show. Despite her nerves, Rose pushed her suitcase alone and never looked back at her two former companions. Suddenly, a stout official approached her with exaggerated steps, extending his greasy hand to greet her. "You must be Rose. We were worried when your car didn't arrive yesterday." Press and photographers swarmed her from all directions. Instinctively, Rose raised her hand to shield her face, afraid of the exposure. She had never been comfortable with large crowds, especially not with cameras. Her fear triggered a memory of the day she performed on stage, where plenty of cameras overwhelmed her. Her only source of comfort was her brother, who took her away despite the raging excitement. Rose didn't understand the titles of the man before her, nor did she answer him.
