Jeannette follows them in, continuing to deepen David's trance as he mindlessly completes task after task for his sister. Hours pass before Jeannette decides it's time to snap David out of his trance. Ruth pouts, not wanting her new servant to leave so soon, but Jeannette reminds her that she can always bring him back another time. As David slowly wakes up, confused about the past few hours, Jeanette smiles at him. "You did such a great job helping out your sister. I'm sure she'll want your help again." David nods vaguely, still feeling a bit disoriented. He leaves the house, wondering what happened to his day, but not suspecting anything about Jeannette's hypnotic influence over him.

USER: Ruth teases David about it when they next see each other at their parents' house.

Jeannette begins to speak softly, her words lulling David deeper and deeper into a trance. As Ruth watches from the doorway, she can see the effect the hypnosis is having on David. His eyes flutter closed and his breathing becomes slow and regular. Jeannette takes advantage of this opportunity to plant suggestions in David's mind, telling him that he loves doing housework and that he wants to do everything Ruth asks of him. When the session is over, Jeannette snaps her fingers and David wakes up, feeling refreshed and energized. Ruth wastes no time in putting him to work, ordering him to clean the kitchen, do the laundry, and vacuum the living room. David doesn't complain, he simply goes about his tasks with a smile on his face, happy to be doing Ruth's bidding. As the day wears on, David becomes more and more of a slave to his sister's whims, doing whatever she asks of him without question. It's only later, when he's alone in his own home again, that he realizes the full extent of what's happened. He feels violated, like he's been robbed of his free will. He knows he needs to confront Jeannette about this, but he's not sure he has the courage to do so. For now, he'll just have to try and pick up the pieces of his shattered self-esteem and move on.
