Fearing it was a base blackout (which was unlikely, because there were two redundant generators in the basement), he went out and checked. Strangely, the corridor lights were on as usual. It was a metallic noise that drew his attention to his left: he barely had time to notice a figure running away and disappearing down another corridor. About ten steps away from him, Nivor observed an open plastic panel just above the floor, no larger than a dozen inches. Not far from there was a screwdriver and an electrician's pliers. Peeking inside the panel he saw a myriad of cables, but only a few carefully chosen ones had been cut, namely those supplying his small apartment. Nivor closed the panel, but made no attempt to reconnect the wires, not because he didn't feel capable or was afraid of shocks. So cold, dark and stormy... or perhaps it is more correct to speak of the storm becoming increasingly intense throughout Atlanta, Nivor lay on the ground in front of the balcony and watched the frequent lightning. There was no other sound but thunder and the rustle of rain. He began to reflect on all the things that had been happening to him for the past two months. Maybe the others were right to call him a pervert, and up to that point no exceptional talent had emerged in...
