The now older kids, including the Byers family and Eleven, have settled into their new lives and friendships in a town on the other side of Indiana. Hawkins has seemingly gone back to normal. Little do they know, the sinister forces that once threatened them all are not as far away as they seem. Plot: The opening of a new government research facility in the Byers' new town sparks curiosity among the group. Rumors of secret experiments are reminiscent of Hawkins Lab and their past experiences. Meanwhile, the Mind Flayer, having survived the events of season 4, is building up its forces and seeking to open a new portal to the Upside Down in the heart of Hawkins. Mike, Will, Eleven, and their new friends embark on a journey to uncover the truth behind the new research facility. Along the way, they learn about a secret government assembly known as The Reckoning, which aims to harness the power of the Upside Down and the creatures that reside there, including the Mind Flayer itself. Back in Hawkins, Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve uncover the newly formed portal to the Upside Down, with creatures slowly starting to emerge again. Working together, they enlist the help of Robin, Dustin, Lucas, and Max to form a plan to stop the invasion of monstrous entities before they can overrun and devastate their town once again. As the two groups work together but from different locations, they discover a mysterious, more powerful link between the new research facility and the portal in Hawkins, confirming that the same evil forces that fueled the chain of events in the past seasons are back, stronger and more relentless. In this thrilling season, the characters are tested mentally and emotionally, as dark truths about their connections, past, and families begin to emerge, driving them to make difficult yet consequential decisions about who to trust and where their loyalties lie.
