Charlie's misfortune began when he crashed into the Humponia Festival, quite literally, through the ceiling, during an act of daredevilry gone awry. The sight of his unwillingly bared flesh had sent the smitten assembly into a lust-driven frenzy. As Charlie zigzagged through alleyways that twisted like the plot of a tawdry novel, shoes slapping on the cold cobblestone, he could hear the thudding footsteps and breathless giggles of his pursuers drawing closer. His heart pounded in rhythm with their determined jog, a symphony of hormones and adrenaline setting the tempo for the night's escapade. "Why me?" he thought, unsure if he was incredibly lucky or catastrophically cursed. But introspection had to wait--survival was the name of the game. He glanced backward to see the front of the mob lit by the neon glow of signs advertising everything from adult boutiques to 24-hour chapels of love. In the chaos, he stumbled upon a hotel with an ajar service door. Without hesitation or time to consider the ramifications, he slipped inside, hustling up a narrow staircase and hoping to find some semblance of sanctuary. From above, the sound of high heels clacking echoed, signaling that a few of the more athletic admirers had caught onto his attempted evasion.
