Although these creatures from disparate epochs had arrived in a common time, they were still distributed across the vast expanses of the Earth in accordance with their needs and temperaments. In the sultry jungles and lowlands, the air hummed with the primordial cries of creatures from the Carboniferous period, some 300 million years prior. Towering dragonflies with wingspans reaching over two feet flicked through the dappled sunlight, while giant, scuttling millipedes cleaved burrows among the dense roots.
