The air was ripe with the metallic tang of fear as Arthur cast furtive glances over his shoulder. Her face hovered inches from his, her sneer carving a menacing gash across her features. Arthur cringed, bracing for whatever might come next, but a strange thing happened. Her eyes, which he had expected to be full of malice, betrayed a flicker of amusement. There was a tension in the air, electric and palpable, as she slowly reached under her t-shirt. In that heart-stopping moment, Arthur was nearly too afraid to look, too afraid of what weapon or instrument of harm she might produce. However, instead of steel or blade, her fingers grasped the edge of what appeared to be a flap of silicone. As Arthur watched, dumbstruck, the woman's rough exterior began to dissolve. With a swift, practiced movement, she peeled off the mask that had conjured her fearsome visage. Underneath was a completely different woman - her skin smooth and fair, her hair a cascade of golden locks that shimmered in the scarce light of the plaza.
