It was more than a home for the hundreds of smugglers, mercenaries and ex-convicts seeking refuge on this desolate planet; it was their domain, their kingdom. The leader of this ramshackle group stood tall in the center of the courtyard, illuminated by dim fluorescent lights. His name was Dulkan, a fearsome mercenary who, desperate for escape, had clawed his way out of a dozen prisons, only to find himself trapped by his own ambition. Dulkan surveyed his motley crew. He rubbed his rough, scarred hands together, barely able to contain his excitement. "Your attention!" he bellowed with a voice that could silence a wolf. "Word has it that he's here - the scourge of the Ki'rra. The bounty on his head is enough to make millionaires of us all. And we've got a chance to snatch him before anyone else even remembers that cesspool of a valley!" He watched the eyes of his underlings widen in anticipation. Even behind the masks, crude helmets and bandanas that were their trademark, he could feel their hunger, their desperation. "We set out in four hours to hunt the most dangerous prey this planet has to offer," he continued. "Let's not keep this payday waiting!" *** The Ki'rra Valley was an unforgiving beast. Its bony, rigid cliffs were razored and jagged, like a giant's teeth preparing to devour any unfortunate soul who dared wander too close. The grass whispered as if to warn the intrepid hunter of a fate that he already knew. Riddick moved quickly and silently in the shadows, his goggles reflecting the pale moonlight. He knew this place, this land, this beast. He was blood-bound to it, chained by a haunting destiny. But he was not alone.
