The pretender to the now-defunct throne of the long dissolved Joeson kingdom, Yi Hon aka Gwanghae-gun [Prince Gwanghae] is assassinated by the shinobi corps of the Japanese pacification forces during a routine patrol due to Fukumatsu's strategies, with Princess Hwain, Yi Hon's daughter becoming part of Shogun Iemitsu's harem of consorts to legitimize Japan's rule over Korea and to help prevent any future claims to the Korean throne by any remaining Yi dynasty survivors. To reward Fukumatsu for his service to the Japanese state, Iemitsu marries off one of Yi Hon/Gwanghae-gun's daughters to Fukumatsu in an arranged marriage and makes Fukumatsu's younger brother Shichizaemon King of Chosun [Korea] in place of the now-deposed and defunct Yi dynasty. Fukumatsu's effective counter-terrorism tactics against the regressive yangaban and Yi dynasty restorationist forces in Korea make him feared not just throughout Japan but through all of East Asia and South-East Asia, and Zheng Zhilong starts wondering if it is a good idea to reveal to the Ming court that he has family in Japan. in 1645, Japan, deciding to honor the long-standing treaty of friendships made between the Mongol Khanate/Yuan dynasty and the Japanese shogunate, secretly sends 'volunteers' to the Jurchen tribes in Manchuria in the latter's conquest of China. Fukumatsu is among one of these volunteers, and his battle strategies and quick mind allow the Jurchens to absolutely destroy the Ming remnants and solidify their creation of the Great Qing Empire, putting an end to thousands of years of Chinese dynastic rule. While on a scouting mission in Fujian in the Nan Ming [Southern Ming] in disguise, Fukumatsu is noticed by his father Zheng Zhilong and brought before the Longwu Emperor of the rump Ming state in Southern China. Neither the Longwu Emperor nor Fukumatsu's father realize Fukumatsu is in fact working with the Jurchen/Qing and Zheng only knows that his son saw combat in Korea during the Joeson pacification campaigns by the Japanese, having no idea Fukumatsu was in fact the strategist responsible for the demise of the Joeson loyalists in Korea. The Longwu Emperor, impressed by Fukumatsu's skill and strategy and his feats in Korea, mistakes Fukumatsu for a Ming loyalist and gives him the imperial surname of Zhu/Chu, along with the first name Chenggong and the title of Koxinga ("Lord of the Imperial Surname"). Now highly placed in the power structure of the rump Ming dynasty, Fukumatsu, now known as Zhu Chenggong/Koxinga to his supposed comrades in the Chinese resistance forces fighting against the Qing Empire, uses his new position of power to lead the Ming army to a series of 'victories' that lead to them losing more than they gain in the end, while establishing his credentials as a master strategist and general among the Ming forces. As de-facto ruler of the Nan Ming Fukumastsu as Zhu Chenggong/Koxinga, Fukumatsu is able to use his high-ranking position of power to suggest the mass movement of Han Chinese loyalists to Indochina, more specifically Vietnam, which is ruled by the native Le dynasty and has somewhat friendly ties with the Ming in preparation for the creation of a Chinese government in exile there. Fukumatsu also starts to funnel information on Ming battle strategies and plans to the Mongol army through covert means, which is then shared with the Mongol's Qing allies. Fukumatsu, in his guise as Ming loyalist Zhu Chenggong/Koxinga, also marries Dong You, the daughter of a Jinjiang family from his father's hometown of Fujian, and Dong gives birth to a boy whom she calles Zhu Jing the next year. When the Qing armies under the Shunzi Emperor destroy the last remnants of the Nan Ming inside their conquered Chinese provinces, Fukumatsu 'helps' the Yongle Emperor of the Nan Ming to flee to Vietnam along with the bulk of the Chinese imperial army, the Ming government and the Ming loyalists still remaining in China. where they assemble their forces in numbers and overthrow the Vietnamese government, making Vietnam into a part of the Nan Ming. The Khmer and Laotian kingdoms are conquered and made into satellite states of the Nan Ming, while the Qing Empire takes a significant portion of the Nan Ming's territories in Southern China and finally achieves its goal of unifying most of China. During his time as Zhu Chenggong/Koxinga, Fukumatsu takes Chuang, Wen, Shi and Chai, ladies from prestigious noble families as his wives and has children with all of them, causing some of his followers in the Ming loyalist movement to refer to him as the true Emperor of the Ming dynasty due to his skill with the ladies and the fact that he seems to be a rather zealous follower of Sunni Islam, the secret religion of the Ming dynasty's ruling House of Zhu/Chu and their support base of the openly Muslim Hui of China's Ningxia's province. In reality, Fukumatsu is still a devoted follower of Japan's state Shinto religion and Buddhism and feels rather uncomfortable leading a jihad against the openly Muslim Manchus, but is somewhat open to Christianity due to his father Zheng Zhilong introducing him to Protestantism. With China now a tributary state of the Manchu-dominated Great Qing Empire under a Ming puppet King and the Ming dynasty's control over China effectively destroyed, Fukumatsu's mission is complete and he now wishes to return home to his beloved Japan. But when some of the Ming loyalists with him suggest they lead an assault to take back China from the Qing and restore the Ming dynasty, Fukumatsu knows he has to do something or his head will be next on the chopping block. To keep his followers' minds off the loss of their country, Fukumatsu as Zhu Chenggong/Koxinga leads a successful assault on the Dutch colonial settlements in Taiwan, driving out the Dutch East Trading Company and the Dutch settlers from the archipelago and establishing a forward base for the supposed reclamation of China from the Qing, which of course never happens as Fukumatsu is a Japanese volunteer for the Mongolian allies of the Manchurians/Qing turned unofficial sleeper agent for his home nation, Japan. To keep up with his image as a Ming dynasty/loyalist with a bit of privateering on the side, he takes the daughter of Antonius Hambroek, a Dutch missionary executed by an overzealous minion of Koxinga's during the Siege of Fort Zeelandia during the conquest of Taiwan, as a concubine after convincing his followers to spare her, but marries her sometime after the conquest of Taiwan due to his familiarity with Christianity. After Koxinga's Ming loyalist forces manage to conquer all of Taiwan as well as the Pengu islands, they decide to settle down in Taiwan and watch the situation in China. The Dongdu Wangchao [Eastern Capital Kingdom] is established as the local government and administration of Taiwan as well as a Ming government in exile in 1654, with Fukumatsu as Zhu Chenggong/Koxinga becoming de-facto King of the nation due to his Prince of Yanping, and most controversially, Crown Regent of the Ming dynasty. On 9 May 1656, to boost his image among his followers and also to add more territory to the Japanese shogunate, Fukumatsu as Zhu Chenggong/Koxinga attacks the Philippines and manages to seize it from the Spanish Colonial administration in a few months of grueling battle, reorganizing the Philippines into a confederation of states ruled by the restored Sultans of Mindanao as a tributary state. After the conquest of the Philippines, Fukumatsu grows tired of pretending to be who is not and formally agrees to 'submit' to the rule of the Japanese imperial family and the Tokugawa shogunate, but not before providing Shogun Tokugawa Ietsuna and Emperor Go-Sai with a comprehensive list of information on the Ming loyalist movement in China and the status of the Nan Ming in Indochina.
