SMALL-BUDGET FILMMAKING CLUB ROOM - LATE AFTERNOON We open on KAITO, a lanky high school student with an eager sparkle in his eye, as he excitedly presents his latest endeavor to the film club -- a found footage horror film. Kaito's friend, YUUDAI, supportive but less enthused, leans against the wall, his arms crossed. KAITO Imagine this... We capture real fear, the kind that sends chills down your spine, all shot with night vision to get the full, eerie effect. It'll be like nothing our school's film club has ever made! YUUDAI (deadpan) As long as we make it back to school alive, I'm in. CUT TO: EXT. HAUNTED HOUSE IN THE WOODS - NIGHT The moon is obscured by swirling clouds, barely illuminating the derelict house as KAITO and YUUDAI, both wearing backpacks laden with equipment, trek through the overgrown path. KAITO This is perfect! Look at this place - it's every horror director's dream! YUUDAI Or nightmare... Kaito switches on his camera. The world turns to shades of green through the NIGHT VISION lens. Owls hoot in the distance as the camera sweeps across the crumbling facade of the house. They step onto the rotting porch, their footsteps echoing. INT. HAUNTED HOUSE - CONTINUOUS The night vision flickers as the boys enter. The walls are peeling, the air stale. Kaito pans the camera excitedly while Yuudai's face tightens with each creak of the ancient floorboards. KAITO (whispering) And... we're rolling. This, my friends, is the haunted history that-- Suddenly, a THUD echoes from below, cutting Kaito's words short. They freeze. Silence, then a soft scrabbling noise, like clawed fingers on wood. Yuudai's eyes widen. YUUDAI Kaito... that came from the basement. Kaito stands still, his bravado seeping away, the camera's unsteady night vision capturing his jittery movements as he swallows hard. The noises grow louder, more insistent. KAITO (forcefully cheery) Okay, so the acoustics are great in here! Really carries the sound. Another BANG, louder, sending a cascade of dust from the ceiling. The camera swings wildly as Kaito stumbles back. KAITO (terror-stricken) Nope! No way, man. I am not ending up as some ghost's lunch. Film school can wait! He flicks off the night vision, the camera capturing only the briefest blur of movement as the boys bolt for the exit, footsteps pounding across the wooden floors. EXT.
