It reads "WELCOME TO HAWKINS - WHERE NOTHING HAPPENS!" Below the banner, Joyce is preparing the room for the annual Hawkins Day gathering. Jonathan and Will help set up the table. JOYCE (cheerful and sarcastic) Oh, isn't this just splendid! We're actually getting an opportunity to celebrate mediocrity in Hawkins! JONATHAN (overly excited) I can barely contain my excitement, Mom! WILL (playing along) This is definitely going to be the highlight of my entire, uneventful life! Suddenly, the door bursts open, and in come Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Eleven. They are laughing, and Eleven is eating waffles. MIKE (clearly impressed) And then, El telekinetically stacked a mountain of waffles higher than the school! LUCAS (bragging) That's right! No one can mess with the Hawkins Waffle Tower!
