ELEVEN We need to act fast - before they cause any harm or become too powerful. MIKE Okay, here's the plan: Eleven and I will find Max and Lucas, and see if we can use our bond with them to break the Mind Flayer's control. Will, Dustin - you need to find more information about the Mind Flayer. We need to understand how it takes control, and how, once and for all, we can stop it from possessing anyone else. The group nods in agreement, and they split up to their respective tasks. CUT TO: EXT. HAWKINS WOODS - NIGHT Mike and Eleven, following the path of destruction left by the possessed Max and Lucas, approach a clearing. There, they find Lucas, surrounded by the slain bodies of demogorgons, carrying an oddly elegant walking cane that he uses as a weapon. Meanwhile, Max is perched on an opulent throne that seems to have materialized out of nowhere, nonchalantly adjusting her crimson gloves. MIKE (calling out) Max, Lucas! Remember who you are! Don't let the Mind Flayer win! As the words echo around them, Max and Lucas both pause, momentarily distracted. A fleeting glimmer of their true selves seems to flicker across their faces. They don't notice that something possessed by the Mind Flayer creeps through a crack in the basement window, releasing a mysterious black mist that engulfs the two kids. Suddenly, their eyes go pitch black, and they start behaving in unnatural ways. Max snatches a folding fan from her bag and begins to dramatically fan herself. MAX (sighing) Finally, a proper environment for one such as myself to truly flourish, don't you agree, darling? Lucas turns towards Max, his eyes also possessed, his demeanor sinister but composed, and he speaks in a surprisingly calm manner. LUCAS Indeed, my Queen, our power combined will bring the citizens of Hawkins to their knees. Max smiles maliciously and they look at each other with the utmost adoration. EXT. WHEELER'S HOUSE - NIGHT The rest of the gang comes out of the Wheeler's house and notices the strange behavior coming from Max and Lucas. Eleven senses something off about them. ELEVEN (concerned) Something's wrong with them, they're not themselves. MIKE We'll have to figure out a way to get them back before they cause any damage. Max and Lucas approach the group, strutting confidently. The gang members stay on guard. MAX (sneering) Oh, look! The plebeians have decided to join our little escapade tonight. (to Lucas) Isn't that simply adorable? LUCAS (nodding) Yes, my Queen, but they should never forget who reigns supreme over them. Max gracefully pulls Lucas closer to her in a protective manner. MAX (seductively) And if they dare try to defy us, they'll have a far more pressing problem to deal with. Lucas, without leaving Max's embrace, eyes the gang as a warning. LUCAS (whispering) And that's a promise that I shall personally guarantee. Max and Lucas laugh menacingly, their deep attachment and overprotectiveness for each other now heightened by the influence of the Mind Flayer. DUSTIN (whispering to the others) We need to figure out a way to separate them if we want to save our friends. WILL It's not just about saving our friends. If they're being controlled by the Mind Flayer, we need to stop them before they harm anyone else in Hawkins. The gang decides to retreat for now, needing time to come up with a plan to save Max and Lucas from the Mind Flayer.
