So... where were we? ROBIN Right, let's talk about something normal, light... remember the time you told me you really thought Faberge Organics shampoo was going to turn your life around? STEVE Whoa, this is quite rich coming from a girl who had a gigantic signed picture of Duran Duran in her locker! Robin bursts out laughing, and Steve watches her with a newfound admiration. There are pieces of electronic equipment strewn about, with newspapers and maps taped to the walls, reminiscent of their previous hidden hideout. DUSTIN Okay, so check this out... He plays an audio recording, filled with static and distorted voices. Amid the noise, they can hear faint murmurs in Russian. STEVE That's Russian again... Do you think they're back? ROBIN We need to find out more. Maybe I can try to translate some of it. Dustin hands over a small notepad and a pen to Robin. She starts jotting down snippets of the conversation as they listen closely. DUSTIN And that's not all, guys. He pulls out a folded blueprint of a building, which Steve and Robin examine. ROBIN This looks like... the mall? DUSTIN Yeah, but there's this new section, and I've never seen it before. I think there might be another hidden base underneath us, right here in the school. Steve's eyes widen, and he shares a concerned look with Robin. STEVE Alright, let's figure this out, together. As they start working on deciphering the audio, translating the text, and unraveling hidden secrets, the trio is once again united by their determination to protect Hawkins from any new threats. It's calm and empty around, only the distant sound of Billy cleaning the pool can be heard. Robin and Steve sit at the counter exhausted after their code breaking adventure, not knowing what to do after discovering the translation. STEVE I still can't believe you cracked that code faster than me. You seriously think fast! ROBIN (smiling) Ah, it's just my huge intellect, you know? Or maybe you're just rusty. STEVE (teasing) No way, I'm Steve Harrington, remember? I'm never rusty. You must be like, some kind of secret genius or something. They laugh but slowly, laughter turns into silence as they both start feeling the intimacy of the moment. The neon light flickers, making their faces look pink and blue. They lock eyes, smiling. The wind has picked up significantly, making both Steve and Robin's hair whip around wildly. The trio appears visibly on edge, each holding their walkie-talkies tightly. STEVE How did you find out about the new gate, Dustin? DUSTIN I intercepted a radio broadcast. All in Russian, but I could tell that their location is right under the mall. As they approach the others, who are waiting near El's car, they hear Max and Lucas arguing. MAX (dead serious) How do you not remember the plan? LUCAS (taken aback) I do, but things have changed! We thought we had more time! Robin rolls her eyes and addresses the group as they come closer. ROBIN Pipe down, lovebirds. It's not about the past; we've got to stay focused on what's ahead of us. The group is now complete: Mike, El, Will, Max, Lucas, Nancy, Jonathan, and Erica, alongside the initial trio. The atmosphere is tense, and time is of the essence. This is going to be a whole new level of awkward at work. STEVE (teasing) Yeah, who knew all the drama and romance would come from working at a video store? As they laugh and walk, heading to their lockers, they don't notice Dustin rounding the corner. He approaches them excitedly, but upon seeing their closeness, he pauses for a second, confused. DUSTIN (clearly wanting to ask) Hey, guys! What's happening here? STEVE (feeling embarrassed) Oh, hey, Dustin... Well, Robin and I... We're, uh, together now.
