Sam, her girlfriend, enters the room, her face pale and eyes puffy from crying. JANE Hey, Sam. What's wrong? SAM (teary-eyed) Jane, it's my dad... he passed away. Jane's heart sinks. She closes her laptop and stands up, rushing to Sam's side. JANE (supportive) Oh my god, Sam. I'm so sorry. When did it happen? Sam collapses onto the bed, and Jane wraps her arms around her, offering comfort. SAM (voice trembling) Yesterday morning... I can't believe he's gone. JANE (holding back tears) I can't even imagine how you're feeling, Sam. Is there anything I can do? Sam sniffles and wipes her tears, composing herself slightly.
