Jane: "Ruby, wait up!" Ruby: "Hey Jane, what's up?" Jane: "I just wanted to ask you something... it's been bugging me for a while now." Ruby: "Sure, go ahead." Jane: "Are you... a mermaid?" Ruby: "What? No, Jane, what makes you think that?" Jane: "I don't know, I saw you swimming in the pool last week and you seemed to be able to hold your breath for a really long time. And your hair... it's always wet, even when it hasn't rained." Ruby: "Okay, fine. You got me. I am a mermaid." Jane: "Wow, that's so cool! But... there's something else, isn't there?" Ruby: "You're really good at reading people, Jane. Yes, there's something I need to tell you... I'm pregnant." Jane: "Pregnant? But how is that even possible?" Ruby: "It's a long story, but basically all mermaids have to mate before they turn 16 or they lose their ability to transform back and forth from human to mermaid. And... well, I didn't think it would happen to me." Jane: "I can't even imagine what that must feel like. How are you holding up?" Ruby: "It's been tough, but I'm getting through it.
