Scene: Jane and Ruby are hanging out in Ruby's room, listening to music and talking. Jane: (laughs) "So, what's with the black cat in the corner?" Ruby: (smirks) "Oh, that's Salem. He's my familiar." Jane: (confused) "Your what?" Ruby: (pauses the music and sits down next to Jane) "Okay, Jane, I need to tell you something. I'm a witch." Jane: (laughs nervously) "What? Are you serious?" Ruby: (nodding) "Yeah. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. I come from a long line of witches, and I just found out I have powers about a year ago." Jane: (still in disbelief) "What kind of powers?" Ruby: "I can control the elements, like water and fire. I can also do spells and make potions." Jane: (pauses for a moment) "Wow, that's... really cool, Ruby. I had no idea." Ruby: (grinning) "I know. It's kind of a secret society thing. But, I trust you, Jane. You've always been a good friend to me." Jane: (smiling) "Thanks, Ruby. I won't tell anyone, I promise." Ruby: (nodding) "Good. You never know who's watching. The last thing I need is for the wrong person to find out and come after me." Jane: (looks worried) "Do you really think that could happen?" Ruby: (shrugs) "It's always a possibility. But, I won't let anyone hurt me or my loved ones. My power is too strong for that." Jane: (looks at Ruby in awe) "You seem really confident about this. You must have some serious skills." Ruby: (smiling proudly) "I do. And, I'm always learning more. It's an exciting journey, being a witch." Jane: (smiling) "You know, Ruby, I have to say... you're not like any other friend I've ever had." Ruby: (laughs) "I'll take that as a compliment." Jane: (smiling) "It is. I mean, who else can say they have a witch for a best friend?" Ruby: (smirks) "Not many. But, I like being different. It makes life more interesting." (The girls laugh and turn the music back on, enjoying each other's company and the secrets they both now share.)
