DAN, a college-aged young man with a relaxed demeanor, sits uncomfortably on the edge of his childhood bed. JEANNINE, his moody, emo cousin, stands before him with an ominously calm posture. Her black-painted nails are a stark contrast against her pale skin. JEANNINE So, you're gonna let me hypnotize you? I've been practicing. Dan rolls his eyes, clearly amused by the notion. DAN Sure, Jeannine. I'll play along. It'll be fun watching you try. Jeannine sits cross-legged on the floor, her bare feet tucked under her. She motions for Dan to focus on her. JEANNINE Alright, Dan. Just focus on my voice and my fingers. Breathe deeply and just relax. Dan gives a stifled laugh but does as told, staring at Jeannine's fingers as she slowly waves them before his eyes. Jeannine's voice is surprisingly soothing, her tone rhythmic. JEANNINE (CONT'D) With every number I count, you will feel twice as relaxed. Starting with ten... Dan's smirk fades, his breathing deepens, his eyelids grow heavier with each passing number. JEANNINE (CONT'D) ...down to one. She snaps her fingers, and to Dan's shock, he slumps backward, his body completely relaxed. JEANNINE (CONT'D) See, you're feeling calm and deeply relaxed, aren't you? DAN (groggy) ...I can't believe this... Jeannine smiles, a flicker of pride crossing her features. JEANNINE Now, when I count you up and snap my fingers, you'll fall ten times deeper into trance, feeling wonderful... She counts him up. SNAP. Dan's body almost appears to melt with relaxation. JEANNINE (CONT'D) And every time you're hypnotized after this by me, you'll find it easier and more enjoyable, sinking deeper each time. Understand? DAN (deeply entranced) ...Yes...
