INT. JANE'S LIVING ROOM - DAY Jane, Sam, Aaron, and Ruby are hanging out on Jane's living room couch, chatting and laughing. JANE So, guys, what do you think of that new movie everyone's talking about? SAM Oh, come on, Jane. You know I'm not into all those action-packed movies. AARON Me neither. I prefer something more sci-fi or adventure-based. JANE Fair enough. How about you, Ruby? RUBY Oh, I haven't been to the movies in ages. I've been busy with Hebrew school and preparing for my Bat Mitzvah. They all smile and nod, listening intently. JANE That's right, Ruby. How's the preparation going? RUBY It's overwhelming sometimes, but I'm excited. It's a big milestone in my life, you know? AARON Absolutely! I can't wait to see you in the spotlight. Sam playfully nudges Jane, teasingly. SAM Hey, Jane. Isn't it kind of funny that a Catholic girl like you has a Jewish best friend? JANE (smiling) Sam, you know I don't care about religion. Ruby is amazing, no matter what. RUBY (grinning) Thanks, Jane. I appreciate it. And Sam, you're my girlfriend, so you better be supportive too. They all laugh. Suddenly, Mrs. Ling's voice is heard from the hallway. MRS. LING (O.S.) Aaron, Ruby, can you both come to my bedroom, please? AARON (confused) What does she need us for? RUBY (curious) I don't know, maybe something important. They all stand up from the couch and head towards the hallway. JANE (offering support) We're here for you, Ruby. SAM (nodding) Definitely. We're a team, remember? They all exchange reassuring glances as they walk down the hallway together towards Mrs. Ling's bedroom. The scene fades out.

INT. MRS. LING'S BEDROOM - DAY Aaron, Ruby, Jane, and Sam enter the room to find Mrs. Ling sitting on the edge of the bed, a worried expression on her face. AARON (concerned) Mom, what's going on? Is everything okay? MRS. LING (struggling to hold back tears) I'm afraid not, Aaron. Your father called earlier. He's been called away for work again. He won't be back for a while. Aaron's face falls, and Ruby reaches out to grab his hand, giving it a gentle squeeze for support. RUBY (sympathetic) I'm so sorry to hear that, Mrs. Ling. Is there anything we can do? MRS. LING (smiling weakly) Your kind words mean a lot, Ruby. But right now, all I need is some company. Can you all stay here for a bit? Just keep me distracted from the loneliness? JANE Of course, Mrs. Ling. We're here for you. Sam pulls out her phone and starts scrolling through some funny videos. SAM I've got a collection of hilarious cat videos. Guaranteed to make you smile, Mrs. Ling. Mrs. Ling's eyes brighten up as she chuckles. MRS. LING Oh, you know how much I love cats! Bring it on, Sam. They all gather around Mrs. Ling, watching the cats on the screen, giggling and sharing stories. The sadness in the room begins to lift, replaced by a warm sense of togetherness. AARON (motioning towards a photo album) Mom, remember when we used to go on family vacations? I miss those times. MRS. LING (tearfully) Yes, Aaron, those were some amazing memories. Your father and I were always so proud of both our kids. Jane gestures towards Ruby and Sam, highlighting the bond they all share. JANE You know what, Mrs. Ling? We may not be blood-related, but we're a family too. We'll stick together through thick and thin. Mrs. Ling wipes away a tear, touched by Jane's words. MRS. LING Thank you, sweetheart. I am truly grateful to have all of you in my life. They continue laughing, reminiscing, and finding joy in each other's company. In that moment, they realize the strength of their friendship and the power of unity. The scene ends with Mrs. Ling smiling, surrounded by her extended family, finding solace in the love and support surrounding her.
