FADE IN: EXT. NEW YORK CITY, 1993 - DAY We see John Hancock, a businessman, walking down the street looking worried. He enters a building, gets in the elevator, and presses the button for the top floor. The elevator doors open, and he enters a fancy office with a view of the city. JOHN HANCOCK (excited) Hello, everyone! No one responds. JOHN HANCOCK (confused) What's going on? AN ASSISTANT (sadly) Sir, we have to talk to you about the financial situation of the company. JOHN HANCOCK (concerned) What's the problem? ANOTHER ASSISTANT (shocked) Sir, we are facing a severe financial crisis. The company is almost bankrupt. JOHN HANCOCK (disbelieving) What? How can that be? We're one of the biggest companies in the industry. AN ASSISTANT (explaining) Unfortunately, we made some bad investments, and the recession hit us hard. We are running out of money to keep the company going. JOHN HANCOCK (hopeful) Can't we get a loan? ANOTHER ASSISTANT (disheartened) We have tried, but the banks are not willing to lend us any more money. JOHN HANCOCK (sighing) What are our options? AN ASSISTANT (sadly) The only thing left is to file for bankruptcy. JOHN HANCOCK (shocked) Bankruptcy? That's the last thing I wanted. It will ruin the company's reputation, not to mention my own. ANOTHER ASSISTANT (rationalizing) It may not be that bad. We can restructure the company, cut costs, and come back stronger. JOHN HANCOCK (accepting) Alright, let's do it. Let's file for bankruptcy. FADE OUT. The John Hancock company did file for bankruptcy in 1993, but they were able to restructure and eventually bounce back.
