They're talking about childhood and the shows they used to watch. The name "Max & Ruby" suddenly comes up. CHARLIE Do you remember that show, man? I always wished I could jump in and play with them. MIKE You know, I've been working on something that could actually make that possible. Charlie raises an eyebrow, looking intrigued. INT. MIKE'S APARTMENT - NIGHT Mike shows Charlie an odd-looking device he calls the INTERDIMENSIONAL TRAVEL-INATOR. He explains that he built it to traverse dimensions and that he's finally ready to test it. MIKE I'll just input the coordinates to the Max & Ruby universe, and we can join them for a day of video gaming fun. CHARLIE This sounds amazing, man. Let's do it! The two enter the coordinates and press a button. A dimensional portal opens up in front of them, and they jump into it without hesitation. EXT. MAX & RUBY'S DREAM WORLD - DAY Mike and Charlie now find themselves in the animation style of their favorite childhood cartoon. They walk towards MAX AND RUBY'S HOUSE. INT. MAX & RUBY'S HOUSE - DAY Mike and Charlie enter the house, and MAX and RUBY greet them with big smiles. They excitedly explain their identities and intention to introduce video games to their lives. MIKE It's such an honor to meet our childhood heroes! We brought you something called "video games." Trust me, you're gonna love it! RUBY Oh, we appreciate the gesture, but we have no idea what that is. Max notices the game console that Mike and Charlie have brought along. MAX Looks fun! Mike realizes that, given the time setting, they have no power outlets to plug in the console. MIKE (whispers to Charlie) We need to improvise. We have to find a way to show them what video games are all about. EXT. MAX & RUBY'S DREAM WORLD - DAY Mike and Charlie gather materials from the town inhabitants to create a manual, non-electronic version of a video game. MIKE We need to make it simple, yet fun. CHARLIE Don't worry, I have a perfect idea in mind! MONTAGE: - Charlie sketches game ideas on paper. - Mike gathers wooden materials to build the game. - Ruby kindly assists the duo in the creation process. - Max watches with excitement as the game comes together. EXT. MAX & RUBY'S BACKYARD - DAY A functional, rudimentary version of their video game is set up in the backyard. They call it "Max & Ruby's Amazing Adventure." MIKE Okay, so each of you will get a turn to move the characters and find the hidden treasure. Max and Ruby immediately dive into the game with enthusiasm. CHARLIE Look at them go, Mike! We did it! We brought video games to the Max & Ruby universe! Sort of... MIKE (looking around) You know what? I didn't need the video games. I just needed to be a child again, living my childhood fantasies. EXT. MAX & RUBY'S DREAM WORLD - DAY As the sun begins to set, Mike and Charlie bid farewell to their childhood heroes. MIKE Thank you, Max and Ruby, for the awesome day. We feel like kids again. Max gives them their invention to remember the day. MAX Keep this treasure, so you always remember your visit! Mike activates the interdimensional travel-inator, and they jump into the portal, waving goodbye. INT. MIKE'S APARTMENT - NIGHT Mike and Charlie reappear back in their world. MIKE Today was truly magical. We might not have recreated the video games we know, but we went on an adventure nonetheless. CHARLIE I agree, man. And now it's time to store our childhood away in our hearts and return to our adult responsibilities. MIKE (looking sad) Yeah, you're right.
