FADE IN: EXT. DESERT PLANET - DAY A young man, LUKE SKYWALKER, stands on a barren desert planet. He gazes out at the horizon, dreaming of adventure. LUKE: (to himself) There must be more out there than this... Suddenly, a small droid, R2-D2, beeps and rolls up to Luke. R2-D2: (beeps) LUKE: What is it, Artoo? R2-D2 projects a hologram of Princess Leia pleading for help. PRINCESS LEIA (hologram): Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope. LUKE: I don't know any Obi-Wan Kenobi. R2-D2: (beeps) LUKE: Wait, my uncle might know something. Luke rushes back to his home, where his uncle, OWEN LARSON, is working on a moisture vaporator. LUKE: Uncle Owen, do you know an Obi-Wan Kenobi? OWEN: (angrily) That old hermit? He lives out in the middle of nowhere. LUKE: I have to find him. Something's not right. OWEN: (softening) Luke, he's just a crazy old man. Forget about him and get back to work. Luke heads back outside and looks off into the distance. LUKE: (to himself) Maybe I am just a farm boy... but I'm not going to stay one forever. Suddenly, a group of Imperial Stormtroopers arrive in search of the stolen droids. STORMTROOPER: (to Luke) Have you seen these droids? LUKE: (sweating) Uh, no, I haven't. The Stormtroopers leave, and Luke knows he must leave the planet to find Obi-Wan Kenobi and join the Rebel Alliance. LUKE: (to R2-D2 and C-3PO) We have to get out of here. Follow me. FADE OUT.
